Overview The Grocery Store Manager is responsible for the overall daily operations of a small, community-focused grocery store. This role oversees staff leadership, customer experience, inventory management, financial performance, and store standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment and takes pride in serving the local community.

Responsibilities Store Operations

Oversee all day-to-day store operations, ensuring smooth, efficient, and compliant execution

Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, merchandising, and food safety

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (health, safety, labor)

Leadership & Staffing

Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise store associates

Lead by example on the sales floor, providing hands‑on support as needed

Coach and develop team members to improve performance and retention

Manage timekeeping, payroll accuracy, and labor budgets

Customer Experience

Deliver exceptional customer service and resolve customer concerns promptly

Build strong relationships with regular customers and the local community

Create a welcoming, neighborhood‑focused shopping experience

Inventory & Merchandising

Manage ordering, receiving, stocking, rotation, and shrink control

Ensure proper product mix, freshness, and in‑stock levels

Execute merchandising plans and seasonal displays

Work with vendors and suppliers as needed

Financial Performance

Manage store sales, margins, expenses, and profitability

Review sales reports and adjust labor, ordering, and promotions accordingly

Reduce waste and control shrink through effective processes

Starting Salary: $55,000-65,000/year

Qualifications

2–5 years of retail management experience, preferably in grocery or food retail

Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills

Working knowledge of inventory management, merchandising, and food safety

Ability to multitask and make decisions in a fast‑paced environment

Basic computer skills (POS systems, scheduling, email, reports)

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays
