Position Summary
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible to use the skills and education required to install, repair, and conduct preventative maintenance on all plant equipment and the facility as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintenance of machine equipment and hand tools.
Troubleshoot a problem beyond basic component replacement with two or more specific trades.
Installation, alteration, preventative maintenance, and repair of various types of production equipment including but not limited to cleaning and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of machinery or plant equipment.
Ability to work on hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electron components.
Set up and operate machine tools such as lathe and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, and tools.
Responsible for proper administration of LOTO, confined space and other OSHA guidelines.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/ NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures in a manner that eliminates risk to health and the environment. Notify leadership of unsafe conditions or practices unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to leadership immediately.
Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.
Maintain production schedules.
Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.
Other duties may be assigned later.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education required/ preferred:
High School diploma or GED. Minimum of two years trade school or equivalent experience.
Experience:
Industrial experience in a similar industry preferred.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Proficient in basic mechanical or electrical skills
Excellent precision measuring ability
Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and steam systems
Understand practical aspects of preventative, predictive maintenance systems & proper lubrication selection & application
Skills/Competencies:
Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office package
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to use all general mechanical hand tools and light power tools
Knowledge of light machine shop tools
Other Skills:
Ability to work well in a team environment
Self-motivated
Detail oriented
Assessment:
Employee must pass Pre‑employment screening.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/ SCOPE
Report directly to the Plant Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
Work closely with Maintenance to resolve issues with the equipment.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
Workday % activity:
67-100% continuous.
Repetitions per hour:
>12.
Lift / carrying:
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs frequently.
Includes bending, twisting, reaching below knee, pushing/pulling, squatting/kneeling, standing/walking, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS
PPE required:
Safety glasses, ANSI Z41 Safety Shoes.
Standing required for extended periods; carrying, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling frequently; climbing, stooping, and grasping occasionally.
Requires high degree of manual dexterity, possibly under restrictive conditions.
Requires flexible hours and short notice for overtime.
Must work in environment with exposure to high elevations, operation of equipment with guards removed, high voltages, steam pressure, high‑water pressure, confined spaces.
