Paraprofessional Specialist - Elementary School (multiple positions) 2025-26 school year
Lee's Summit R-7 School District is seeking Paraprofessional Specialists to support classroom instruction and provide one‑on‑one assistance to at‑risk students.
2025‑26 School Year 171 days per year 7.5 hours per day
Purpose Statement The Paraprofessional Specialist role is designed to support the instructional program in the assigned classroom with specific responsibility for working with at‑risk students one‑on‑one, following educational and behavioral plans, documenting daily student activities, and modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff.
This position reports to the School Principal.
Essential Functions
Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
Communicate with professionals (e.g., Speech Therapist, PTs, COTAs) to assist in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
Collect student and classroom data to monitor growth and IEP/BIP revisions and facilitate instruction and behavior supports under the teacher’s direction.
Provide accommodations and modifications to increase accessibility in general and special education settings.
Maintain confidentiality of student information.
Maintain manual and electronic files and records for written references and to meet mandated requirements.
Model conversation, manners, clean‑up activities, listening, and everyday interactions in a culturally sensitive manner.
Perform other related duties to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Provide instruction to students under the teacher’s direction (e.g., math, science, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, verbal skills) to implement IEP goals.
Monitor students during assigned periods for safety, de‑escalate situations, and remove students when necessary.
Respond to emergency situations by following district‑approved procedures and techniques.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Must have 60 college credit hours or pass the Paraprofessional Test in the State of MO.
Valid Driver’s License.
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
Skills
required include safety practices and accurate record‑keeping.
Knowledge
required includes basic math (fractions, percents, ratios), reading manuals, composing documents, and understanding age‑appropriate activities for high‑risk youth.
Abilities
required include scheduling, data gathering, using job‑related equipment, flexibility, communication, teamwork, confidentiality, problem‑solving, and working with diverse individuals.
Responsibilities
include working under supervision, leading/coordinating activities, and operating within a defined budget.
Working Environment
involves significant lifting, carrying, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, with 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.
