About Hudson Valley Community College Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is a multi‑campus community college located in Upstate New York with campuses in Troy and Malta. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs across three schools: Business and Liberal Arts, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Responsibilities

Provide academic advisement to students in all programs within the Department of Education and Social Sciences.

Advise students on career objectives, transfer opportunities, and program choice.

Assist students in course selection and scheduling.

Evaluate transfer credit in coordination with the department chairperson.

Advise students on the impact of scheduling decisions on financial aid and academic standing.

Provide assistance to students seeking course withdrawal, termination, cross‑registration, and curriculum change.

Refer students to available student development and academic support resources.

Participate in academic activities within the department when appropriate.

Maintain a working knowledge of college services, policies, and procedures affecting student academic success.

Collaborate with other advisors to develop in‑person and web‑based tools to assist students with the advisement and registration process.

Maintain appropriate records of student advisement sessions.

Perform all other related duties as assigned.

May be assigned to any campus area in need of advisement.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, education, counseling, or a related field.

Experience in counseling or advisement at the post‑secondary level.

Previous experience with academic advising and programs supporting academic success or teaching at the post‑secondary level.

Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with college students and faculty.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field.

College advising experience in liberal arts disciplines.

Experience using college academic software systems such as Banner and Degreeworks.

Compensation Hourly rate: $27.00 for qualified candidates with a BA; $30.00 for qualified candidates with an MA.
