Role Summary The Supervisory Linguist assists the Program Manager in overseeing the performance of a language services contract supporting the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

Key Responsibilities

Serve as an on‑site supervisor and point of contact for law enforcement personnel at each TIII intercept location.

Supervise linguists on‑site during the performance of daily work assignments and end products.

Support the Program Manager with assignments:

Assign linguists to monitor real‑time oral communications intercepts.

Assign linguists to transcribe, translate, and validate completed work.

Train and orient new hires and personnel lacking prior experience with procedures and policies for the work and wire‑room operations.

Ensure smooth transition between linguist shifts when monitoring or transcription services must continue beyond an individual’s shift.

Maintain records of work production, evidence control, and other administrative records as required.

Maintain the monthly schedule and time‑attendance records for supervised linguists.

Follow all Quality Control Plan procedures.

Perform all functions and duties required of linguists, including monitoring, translating, transcribing, interpreting, performing quality control, and validating services.

Provide reliable and accurate transcriptions, translations or interceptions and/or summaries of source materials or intercepts into English.

Attend ATF‑sponsored training for equipment and software operation and upgrades, including audio recording machines, computerized word‑processor/data‑management software, and other equipment as determined necessary by ATF.

Execute administrative duties such as placing log sheets, line sheets, duplicating tapes or summaries into binders, copying and stapling paperwork, and labeling storage boxes.

Attend minimization briefings conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and ATF and understand and comply with court regulations concerning minimization procedures.

Qualifications

Prior experience managing and performing linguist duties such as monitoring, translating, transcribing, interpreting, performing quality control, and/or validating services.

Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.

Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding at least one language other than English, demonstrated by a valid certification or evidence of language proficiency testing.

Preferred Qualifications

At least two years of experience in a supervisory role, particularly for language services contracts.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

May be required to use a computer screen for extensive periods of time.

Extended working hours and travel may be necessary.
