The Distribution Designer will report to the Dayton office daily and will be responsible for inspecting both overhead and underground electrical distribution equipment. This role involves compiling field data, preparing minor work orders, and maintaining detailed reports on distribution equipment. The individual will measure and map Low Voltage Distribution systems, identify and record electrical equipment on poles, and perform a variety of field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
Responsibilities Conduct visual inspections of overhead and underground electrical distribution equipment.
Compile field data, prepare minor work orders, and maintain detailed reports.
Measure and map out Low Voltage Distribution (LVD) systems.
Identify and record electrical equipment on poles.
Perform system inventories, audits, joint use management, permitting, pad‑mount inspections, ground‑line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, and lighting audits.
Utilize laptops, tablets, GPS, and other electronic devices for field data collection.
Develop a working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), electric utility construction standards, and communication facilities.
Operate equipment like height sticks and range finders to take accurate measurements.
Perform pole inspections and maintenance on pad‑mount equipment.
Achieve weekly billable goals as defined by project guidelines.
Field data collection and utility locating experience.
Comfortable with heavy field work.
Basic computer proficiency, including Excel.
Experience in physically demanding roles such as manual labor, construction, utility locating, landscaping, manufacturing, or warehouse/cold storage.
Additional Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma or Associate Technology Degrees preferred if work experience aligns with the criteria.
Experience with GIS, distribution engineering, civil engineering, CAD, substation design, transmission design, mechanical design, surveying, protective relay, and instrumentation controls is advantageous.
Candidates aged 21+ are preferred to meet company vehicle driving requirements, though 20+ may be acceptable.
The role is based in the Dayton office with the opportunity for flexible hours once trained. The environment is less physically demanding compared to other field roles, offering better hours and a focus on outdoor visual inspections and data collection.
