New York Road Runners (NYRR) was founded in 1958 when a small group of passionate runners vowed to bring running to the people. NYRR has grown from a local running club into the world’s premier community running organization. NYRR’s mission is to help and inspire through running, aiming to empower people of all ages and abilities to improve their health and well‑being through the power of running and fitness.
Core Responsibilities
Plan, execute, and monitor NYRR’s community‑based projects and initiatives to maximize program impact.
Ensure projects align with community strategy, needs, and organizational goals.
Lead cross‑functional teams to ensure projects are successfully executed and stay within scope.
Manage project budgets and resources.
Develop and track project timelines with key milestones and risks.
Project manage new community‑based initiatives, including the planning and execution of any new youth and/or community programs.
Support Director, Project Management in leading cross‑functional team for planning and execution of annual org‑wide initiatives and special projects related to our Community and Youth programs.
Supporting Responsibilities
Partner with Director, Project Management to instill PM best practices at NYRR by developing project templates, documentation, contingency planning, and training materials.
Build upon current cross‑functional collaboration best practices with the goal of fostering increased communication and teamwork across the organization.
Partner with other NYRR teams to identify process improvements and develop recommendations for improvement; foster embrace of organization‑wide change management and role model associated best practices.
Assist with facilitation of innovative brainstorming sessions.
Assist with the execution of yearly strategy sessions and recaps for Youth and Community‑based programs.
Job Requirements Experience
3+ years of project management experience in the Community and/or Youth program space.
Strategy experience a plus.
Solid experience with change management and process improvement projects.
Knowledge and understanding of Community Programming, New York City Public Schools, and/or Youth Running landscape.
Education And Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree required.
PMP certification a plus.
Skills And Attributes
Resourceful, innovative, and strategic thinker.
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills combined with a strong work ethic and tenacity.
Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
High initiative and ability to drive timely delivery of workplans.
Capacity to synthesize large amounts of data and effectively present findings to leadership and area owners.
Financial aptitude and business acumen, able to read, understand, translate, and create qualitative and quantitative reports related to financial and business performance.
Superb time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; aptitude to work with a variety of internal and external constituencies.
Strong presentation skills.
Ability to work well independently and as part of a team on collaborative assignments.
Ability to exercise discretion with confidential matters and information.
Familiar with NYC communities across all five boroughs.
Ability to work occasional weekends or evenings.
Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Other Requirements
All staff are required to work the NYC Half Marathon, Brooklyn Half Marathon, and the TCS NYC Marathon.
Experience in sports (especially running!) at any level a plus.
Salary: $72,000 – $75,000.
