Fulton County Schools
Supervises and coordinates Theater activities; Supports each participant in achieving a higher level of personal skill, fosters an enhanced appreciation for theater, and increases student theatrical and technical capability through rehearsals and performances; Provides students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular theater activities; Ensures compliance with all state and district regulations and requirements; Participation in approved theater performances in the community are also an expectation of this position.
Directing middle-school or high school theater productions.
Preparing lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences
Planning and using appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
Collaborating with Band, Chorus, and Orchestra teachers to provide students with integrated experiences when appropriate.
Conducting on-going assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing
Creating an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
Providing for theatre participation at extracurricular events.
Providing direction and opportunities for students to compete in theatrical competitions.
Ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and Fulton Board of Education board policy
Working collaboratively with feeder school theater directors to recruit and retain students at the high school
Compiling budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs
Coordinating fundraising activities and managing funds
Overseeing the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing theater equipment, costumes, and props.
Accompanying and supervising students on out-of-town trips
Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Maintaining emotional control under stress
Communicating responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership
Accounting for student attendance and punctuality
Following professional ethics in all work-related activities
Maintaining professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
Preparing adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent
Facilitating home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications
Avoiding behaviors which detract from staff morale
Performing other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required education:
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited university in Theatre Education and/or English
Certification/Licensure:
Valid Georgia Teaching Certification in applicable field required, or must be eligible to hold a valid Georgia Teaching Certificate
Minimum 3 years of successful teaching and theatre directing experience required; Experience at the high school level preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to collaborate with staff in an extremely active performing arts environment is essential
Knowledge of overall operation of a theatrical program
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
Working conditions:
Outside as required by activities
Requires travel and job responsibilities outside of the scheduled work hours
Frequent lifting 5-10 lbs.
Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
Frequent sitting, bending, walking, and standing
Occasional stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching
Occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions
