Job Purpose The Children’s Minister is to implement and carry out the children’s ministry (4 years – 6th grade) following the mission of Highland Drive Baptist Church. Highland Drive Baptist Church is a family of believers in Jesus Christ who seek to love God, connect to others, and to serve the world. The children’s minister will intentionally build relationships with children, their parents, and children’s ministry volunteers with the purpose of guiding children to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
Qualifications
Clear call to vocational ministry
Displays a genuine love for children and a passion for cultivating their development and growth in Christ
Visible, growing relationship with Christ
A demonstrated ability to build meaningful relationships and strong connections with children and their families
If married, spouse demonstrates a strong relationship in Christ as well as a willingness to provide support and encouragement
Bachelor’s degree required
Experience and Skills
Shares one’s faith in Christ consistently as opportunities arise
Proven leadership skills utilizing a cooperative, collaborative, and strategic team leadership style
Possess the ability to use appropriate judgment, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality for the purpose of creating a safe environment for our children
Good steward of financial, physical, and human resources
Possess the ability to embrace innovation and creativity while adapting to growth and change
Possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain healthy and motivating relationships
Highly self-motivated with strong time management and organizational skills
Duties and Expectations
Create a safe environment for children
Ensure all levels of the Ministry Safe Policy are followed including being Ministry Safe certified
Assess and implement safety protocols, fully communicating expectations to volunteers, parents, and other pertinent teams
Provide a concise QR code-enabled flier for first-time visitors that outlines important children’s ministry information and logistics
Communicate and implement the vision of the church as it pertains to the children’s ministry
Partner with the discipleship pastor, youth minister, and nursery director to develop a comprehensive discipleship model from birth to high school
Focus on high-impact ministry work that leads to maximizing the effectiveness of efforts to fulfill Christ’s mission
Form a ministry team of key parents and volunteers and meet with this team every month for planning and feedback
Consistently and effectively communicate all ministry-related activities and events to families
Recruit, train, empower, and oversee volunteers
Assess strengths of volunteers and align to volunteer positions and/or needs
Organize volunteers to lead Sunday morning and Wednesday night gatherings (ex. small groups, kid’s worship, discipleship groups, etc.) and provide curriculum
Host training for children’s volunteers each quarter that includes, but is not limited to, safety and discipline training
Meet with each small group leader, one-on-one, twice a year for the purposes of spiritual check-in, ministry feedback, and evaluation
Develop relationships with children and parents to facilitate discipleship and ministry
Plan parent meetings each quarter for the purpose of encouraging and equipping parents to lead their children spiritually at home.
Consistent interaction with and inclusion of each and every child, whether a member or visitor
Develop and oversee events and ministries to facilitate evangelism and discipleship
Lead the planning and execution of children’s summer camp
Lead the planning and execution of VBS
Prepare an annual plan and manage the budget for the children’s activities
Affirm the statement of faith of Highland Drive Baptist Church
Attend weekly ministry staff meetings or team meetings
