Responsibilities

Performs medication order entry and verification and clarifies and/or resolves issues with any aspect of medication as necessary, including but not limited to: therapeutic duplication, medication/dose/frequency appropriateness, medication interactions, dosage form clarification, renal dose adjustments

Completes clinical pharmacy interventions and monitoring

Completes consults as ordered by medical providers including but not limited to: pharmacokinetic dosing, anticoagulant dosing, parenteral nutrition, renal dose adjustments, etc.

Provides education to staff and patients as necessary

Consults with other healthcare professionals in order to find cost‑effective therapeutic substitutions as approved by policy or by provider

Investigates and offers recommendations in regard to adverse drug reactions, medication errors, and medication safety

Conducts medication use evaluation studies and any necessary clinical recommendation documentation stemming from study results

Supervises technician activities and checks technician pulls/actions for correctness, including tray/kit replenishment, medication repackaging, sterile and non‑sterile compounding, and medication dispensing cabinet refills

Performs sterile compounding when needed and assists in general pharmacist duties related to the IV room

In the absence of or as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, serves on various committees including but not limited to: Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, monthly service committees, P&T, Root Cause Analyses, etc.

In the absence of or as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, assists in various tasks such as schedule maintenance, payroll processing, and new employee training

Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, researches and designs, initiates, implements and trains appropriate staff on clinical pharmacy initiative and projects.

Other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate by the Director of Pharmacy

Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

Qualifications:

At least a bachelor's degree in pharmacy is required, a Doctor of Pharmacy is preferred

Must have current pharmacist licensure with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy

Hospital experience preferred but not required

Interpersonal skills to successfully interact with patient, guest, physicians, and other employees

Odessa Regional Medical Center was founded in 1975 as Odessa Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Through the years, the hospital grew and evolved into a full‑service healthcare facility and the name was changed to Odessa Regional Medical Center to reflect its larger campus and more comprehensive services. The hospital has 225 beds and has approximately 250 physicians on staff and has over 700 employees.
