Position Summary: Abacus is seeking a
full‑time Assistant Project Manager (APM)
to support
highway and roadway asset management operations
on a major maintenance project in South Florida. The APM assists the Project Manager in planning, budgeting, scheduling, and overseeing field operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Highway and roadway construction or maintenance experience is essential
for success in this role. The position requires a strong technical foundation in
civil, mechanical, or industrial engineering
or
construction management , combined with practical knowledge of
transportation infrastructure projects .
Key Responsibilities:
Support Project Manager with
planning, scheduling, budgeting, and reporting
for roadway and highway maintenance projects.
Oversee
daily field operations , safety compliance, and crew supervision for highway work zones.
Manage project documentation, QA/QC inspections, and maintenance performance tracking.
Coordinate with
state and local DOT clients , contractors, and internal teams.
Analyze operational data to improve field efficiency, productivity, and safety on roadway assets.
Prepare monthly and quarterly reports and assist with change orders.
Serve as acting project lead in the Project Manager’s absence.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
in Engineering (civil, mechanical, or industrial) or Construction Management from an
ABET‑accredited
program.
1–3 years of experience in highway or roadway construction, maintenance, or engineering operations
(required).
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Fluent in
English and Spanish
(written and verbal).
Proficiency with
Microsoft Office 365 ; familiarity with
ArcGIS, PowerBI, CAD, or MicroStation
preferred.
Ability to work outdoors and respond to project or weather‑related emergencies.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 25%.
Preferred:
Experience with DOT contracts, roadway construction, or infrastructure asset management .
E.I. or P.E. certification
(or eligibility).
Military or field leadership experience.
Work Environment:
65% field‑based (highway and facility environments)
25% office/client meetings
10% remote or travel as needed
