Proposal Writer – Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) Salary: $75,000.00/yr – $85,000.00/yr (Actual pay based on skills and experience.)

Join our dynamic Business Development team as a skilled Proposal Writer with at least five years of experience in proposal writing and federal contracting.

Key Responsibilities

Lead most proposal writing and other BD‑related writing for the SSAI BD team. Draft and finalize complete, compliant, and competitive proposals and other submissions.

Review and edit proposals and proposal sections drafted by BD collaborators to ensure they meet client/solicitation requirements and internal best practices.

Review RFPs, RFAs, RFQs, RFIs, TOs, etc. to understand client needs, be responsive to evaluation criteria, and comply with solicitation requirements.

Collaborate with subject matter experts and cross‑functional teams to gather and then synthesize complex technical inputs to suit proposal needs.

Collaborate with pricing teams to ensure alignment between technical and cost volumes.

Assist in the management of proposal timelines, ensuring that milestones are met and review feedback is appropriately incorporated. Collaborate with proposal teams to ensure good version control across the proposal process.

Assist in the final production of submission‑ready documents as needed, including formatting, graphics, org charts, and other visual content.

Periodically assist with process improvement and documentation (e.g., templates, guidance, support materials).

Collaborate within the BD team and with senior management to ensure clear and streamlined communication.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Communications, Technical Writing, Business, English, Earth Sciences, Computer Science, or related field, and a minimum of 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

5+ years of experience as a Technical or Proposal Writer, or a relevant Business Development role.

5+ years of experience with federal contracting.

Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to be succinct and write within solicitation parameters.

Ability to meet milestones for multiple simultaneous proposals and to prioritize tasks under tight deadlines.

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Desired Qualifications

Familiarity with solicitation compliance, relevant federal regulations (e.g., FAR, DFARS), proposal representations and certifications, and government contract types.

Specific experience with NASA, NOAA, EPA, NIH, or DoD is a plus.

Experience working in a small business setting or in a hybrid office environment.

Experience with Adobe Suite or CRM software.

Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
