Department Overview The Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Strategies team within Gas Engineering plays a critical role in advancing PG&E’s True North Strategy and help PG&E meet its goal to achieve net‑zero GHG emissions by 2040 and become “climate positive” by 2050. The team leads efforts to reduce methane emissions, develop pathways to decarbonize the gas supply, and influence state policy by leveraging PG&E’s technical expertise as a pipeline operator. Its main goal is to accelerate the transition to low‑carbon fuels—ensuring cleaner energy sources reliably reach customers through our system.

Position Summary The Gas Engineer, Expert is responsible for all aspects of the Natural Gas Leak Abatement program. The successful candidate excels at developing and implementing effective strategies to lower GHG emissions, analyzes technical data, manages tactical plans, and collaborates with various internal stakeholders and departments to achieve program objectives with minor supervision. This role includes work as listed below:

Calculate GHG emissions estimates that are used for both internal and external reporting, ensuring compliance with regulatory agency requirements

Analyze operational and GHG emissions data to determine trends and potential areas‑of‑improvement

Develop and maintain working relationships, contacts, and networks across multiple lines of business (LOB) to achieve cooperation from others to achieve a goal

Guide research and development (R&D) projects to study, evaluate, and test new or revised methodologies, best practices, tools, processes, procedures, and technology assessing potential fit, benefits, and impacts to methane emissions abatement activities

Develop, monitor and implement Tactical Implementation Plans (TIP) to achieve team results

Manage benchmarking internally and externally for analysis and continuous improvement

Participate and present at meetings with regulators and industry peers to share program results and best practices

Act as subject matter expert for anything related to GHG emissions, including how emissions data is gathered and how it is reported in regulatory filings

Find ways to streamline data management and reporting, and improve data quality

A successful candidate will demonstrate a strong passion for innovation and emerging technologies, coupled with the ability to lead and collaborate on multi‑functional and cross‑functional projects within a matrix environment. They should thrive in roles that demand exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical thinking.

Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory between San Ramon, Oakland, or Sacramento headquarters. Please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need.

Position will require approximately 20% of travel time in work schedule.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case‑by‑case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum:$136,000

Bay Area Maximum: $232,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Works independently with guidance on only the most complex projects

May act as team lead and provide direction to less experienced employees

Qualifications Qualifications [Minimum]

BS Engineering or equivalent experience

Seven (7) years of relevant experience

Qualifications [Desired]

MS Engineering

Professional Engineer (PE) license

Gas transmission or distribution experience with design, maintenance, construction and/or operations

Advanced communication and presentation skills

Ability to organize and present information and recommendations to leaders across functions

Ability to lead cross‑functional project teams

Expert Knowledge of applicable engineering principles, codes, regulations, policies and procedures related to the industry and PG&E

Ability to build relationships and influence actions, decisions, accountabilities and outcomes across functions

Ability to translate strategy into specific plans and action

Strong organizational skills.

Analytical problem solving and decision‑making ability

Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, Foundry Palantir and SAP
