Salary: Level III: $3,606 to $4,563 per month (SR-11, Step C to I). Level IV: $4,054 to $5,133 per month (SR-14, Step C to I).

Overview Performs a variety of functions in the conduct of agricultural research and operations; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Agricultural Research Technician III This class represents the first independent level of work performance in support of agricultural research projects and/or the conduct of specialized agricultural operations. Assistance is provided to researchers in the conduct and completion of all phases of projects in accordance with experimental design involving standardized practices and procedures. Work is performed under general supervision. It is periodically checked while in progress and on completion for results by a researcher or a higher‑level technician. A position in this class may include the supervision of a few lower‑level aids as needed.
Agricultural Research Technician IV This class reflects the work of a specialist in the conduct of a variety of complex and intensified work in the full implementation of crop research projects, including the maintenance of the limited facilities used and all equipment and tools used in the work, and/or as senior technician in charge of a segment of an experimental station or farm including the continuous supervision of a few subordinates. The first type may include a position assigned full‑time to the performance of routine chemical analysis of plants and soils in a laboratory. Work is performed independently under general supervision and direction and reviewed primarily for results unless assistance is requested by the incumbent. A position in this class may be responsible for the day‑to‑day supervision of the total small work force of an experiment station.
Qualifications
General Experience:
ONE (1) YEAR of work experience in the operation of a farm or related agricultural laboratory or industry which provided exposure to basic agricultural/farm activities.
Examples of qualifying General Experience:
Planting and harvesting pineapples, controlling weeds among growing crops, caring for plants in a nursery (watering, weeding, fertilizing, transplanting);
Participating in laboratory studies of plant diseases.
Specialized Experience:
For the Agricultural Research Technician IV level, at least one year of the required Specialized Experience must have been comparable to the independent worker level, Agricultural Research Technician III.
Agricultural Research Technician III:
ONE (1) YEAR of non-professional or technical work experience performing agricultural activities in situations involving recordation, comparison, evaluation, experimentation and drawing of conclusions from data; and which provides the applicant with knowledge of precision research work methods.
Agricultural Research Technician IV:
TWO (2) YEARS of non-professional or technical work experience performing agricultural activities in situations involving recordation, comparison, evaluation, experimentation and drawing of conclusions from data; and which provides the applicant with knowledge of precision research work methods.
License and Special Requirements Driver’s license: A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment.
Physical requirement: Some positions require the ability to lift and carry items of various weights with or without reasonable accommodations.
Medical clearance within six months from the date of hire to use a respirator.
