Job Overview
Fairview has an immediate opening for a Driver/Material Handler at the University of MN West Bank Campus located in Minneapolis, MN.
This is a casual role, meaning there are no scheduled shifts, and this role is not eligible for benefits.
The Driver/Material Handler transports and distributes sterile product and material between the System Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) and other Fairview entities. Transports contaminated instruments to System CSSD for decontamination. Loads and unloads transfer carts. Bar code scans instrument sets and instruments per policy.
Responsibilities
Ensures the delivery and receipt of CPC instrumentation, linen, metal ware and sterile products among the Fairview entities.
Loads onto and unloads equipment from delivery vehicle.
Delivers supplies and carts to designated areas within the hospitals.
Utilizes power pallet jack for movement of heavy materials.
Verifies material contents against surgical case cart orders.
Builds metal ware orders.
Knowledge, skills and abilities needed:
Prioritization skills
Ability to operate pallet jack
Knowledge of proper body mechanics
Critical thinking skills
Interpersonal communication skills
Annual required learning packet.
Annual departmental competencies
Coordinates and maintains routine vehicle maintenance checks.
Insures that vehicle has proper tune-ups and oil changes.
Insures vehicle contains adequate fuel for operation.
Submits receipts for maintenance expenses.
Knowledge of routine vehicle maintenance schedule
Organizational skills
Knowledge of Department of Transportation Requirements (DOT)
Transports sterile and soiled instruments by truck and in enclosed transfer carts to assist in the prevention of contamination with bioburden.
Follow protocol for putting away and distributing sterile instrumentation.
Keep conditions favorable for the storage and transportation of sterile instrumentation.
Completes sterility check points on instruments assembled and shipped.
Knowledge of sterile and contaminated material and appropriate flow processes.
Knowledge of materials being transported and how to access MSDS information.
Technical skills
Knowledge of basic infection prevention practices in relation to the transportation of sterile and soiled instruments.
Driver’s license with air brakes as applicable in relation to trucks with air brakes.
Knowledge of Minnesota Department of Transportation Vehicle Policy.
Bar code scanning.
Knowledge of the instrument tracking system.
Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
Knowledge skills, abilities needed: knowledge of developmental stages and age appropriate outcomes and interventions.
Good communication skills both written and verbal.
Ability to accept cultural differences.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma / GED
Clean driving record
Class B Driver's License; Driving truck Class B license
Preferred Qualifications
Distribution experience in a Healthcare setting
Computer skills to communicate with team and use of tracking system
