This position is responsible for all bulk raw material handling operations, including coordination of incoming and outgoing loads once on-site, ensuring compliance with our quality and safety standards, and associated recordkeeping for accounting purposes. Additionally, this position will have the ability to assist production members for non-routine tasks, such as preventative maintenance of equipment, and shutdown/start-up activities. This position will report to Production.
Education, Certifications and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent
Forklift certification is required but may be obtained after hire
Rail mover certification is required but may be obtained after hire
4+ years’ experience in food or feed industry manufacturing is required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be self‑motivated and show a willingness to learn
Computer knowledge (Microsoft Office, EMaint., SAP, Velocity, etc.)
Ability to multi‑task
Ability to professionally interact and communicate with others
Good written and verbal communication skills
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Mechanical aptitude and/or a willingness to learn how to troubleshoot mechanical issues
Use of required personal protective equipment when in the manufacturing environment including the ability to use a respirator with a knowledge of chemicals
Working around large manufacturing machines and equipment
Other general equipment used at an industrial site (i.e. hoist, telehandler, etc.)
Working Conditions Fast paced bio‑processing manufacturing environment working both in a plant setting. May perform activities in an environment containing hazardous elements and requiring safety awareness and adherence to all safety policies and guidelines. Work must be performed in a safe manner for personal protection and for the protection of other team members. All safety, environmental, and quality procedures (SOPs, JHAs, and ISO standards) in all functional areas must be strictly complied with.
Physical Requirements
Sitting, standing, walking, repetitive use of hands/arms/legs, and eye/hand coordination for 6+ hours a day
Frequent bending, reaching overhead, crouching, balancing, pushing or pulling
Occasional lifting of 50 lbs. or less
Ability to operate general manufacturing powered equipment, tools and all‑terrain vehicles
Ability to maintain forklift certification
Ability to wear respirator according to respiratory protection program
Safety, Environmental, & Quality Compliance
Utilize safe work habits and follow all policies and procedures
Make sound decisions while not compromising safety, environmental or quality standards
Complete/assist with quality, food safety, and sanitation audits as required
Clean, organize and maintain raw material storage, material unloading areas, pump houses, and raw material office.
Turn in any hazards as they are identified to get them corrected as soon as possible
Oversee raw material containment areas and waste water lagoons.
Attend regularly scheduled training sessions to stay current on all compliance initiatives
Raw Material Receiving & Co‑Product Loading
Communicates with Logistics members to coordinate incoming deliveries and loading of trucks with bulk liquid products.
Ensures documentation and records of deliveries, including COA’s and BOL’s, are accurate, and meet quality standards for receiving goods. Creates and finalizes documentation for all out‑bound loads.
Responsible for LOTO procedures for all outdoor raw material and co‑product, including restricted access to raw material unload stations, and isolation of systems for maintenance.
Responsible for the receiving, unloading, and transfer of Soda Ash to maintain stable production operations. This includes keeping the unloading area clean of spilled product and the operation and PM of the unloading equipment, baghouses, and silo.
Operate heavy machinery and equipment for loading, unloading, and moving bulk material rail cars.
Knowledgeable in hazardous material handling procedures.
Monitors other outdoor equipment and processes, such as wastewater lagoons, cooling towers, raw material silos, and fire‑water tank, and communicates potential issues to supervisor.
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
Suggest/implement process improvement, cost down, or best practice ideas
Continually strive for increasing processing efficiencies
Complete 5S activities to keep the work area clean and organized
Collaborate with other departments and contractors within the company to accomplish tasks/goals as needed
