Job Title: Lab Services Associate Job Description The Lab Services Associate is responsible for providing exceptional care to research animals, performing technical procedures, and supporting animal studies. The role involves managing shipping and receiving tasks and overseeing office operations. This position requires a motivated individual with a passion for working with animals and the ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines. Weekend and holiday work is expected. Responsibilities
- Provide food, water, and clean housing to rodents according to SOPs.
- Perform daily health observations and report abnormalities.
- Monitor animal health and communicate issues to veterinary staff.
- Handle and restrain rodents safely.
- Assist with small animal dosing via various administration routes.
- Support in vivo research team with study setup and activities.
- Maintain accurate records of facility procedures and metrics.
- Perform cage wash duties, including processing and sterilizing caging.
- Manage breeding, weaning, and animal identification tasks.
- Ensure facility sanitation and stock room supplies.
- Monitor and record environmental parameters.
- Perform euthanasia and necropsy procedures as needed.
- Operate husbandry-related equipment using approved procedures.
- Collaborate with management and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance.
- Generate necessary documentation for animal studies.
- Arrange shipment of samples to external laboratories.
- Catalog tissue shipments and manage biometric reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Collaborate on shipping and receiving operations.
- Prepare and track incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Resolve discrepancies in shipping, storage, or receiving.
- Maintain accurate inventory logs and engage with vendors positively.
- Oversee office operations and administrative tasks.
- Bachelor's degree in science (biology or equivalent) or relevant training.
- Veterinary technician training or AALAS certification.
- Experience in a laboratory setting with exposure to laboratory animals.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks efficiently.
- Strong teamwork and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PRISM, MatLab, Key Solutions, Box.
- Basic math skills: adding, subtracting, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift items up to 40 lbs.
- Demonstrated communication skills.
- Previous work experience in relevant roles.
- Experience with potentially hazardous substances.
- Proficiency in handling PPE (personal protective equipment).
- Soft skills: proactive, organized, integrity, compassion, reliability, timeliness, accurate documentation.
