Overview
The Gardener is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the beauty of the gardens and landscaping managed by the Making A Difference Foundation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for gardening and a desire to contribute to the foundation's mission of providing healthy food options for the community. This part‑time role requires approximately 15–20 hours per week, with flexible hours based on garden needs and planting schedules.
Responsibilities
Planting, watering, weeding, and maintaining garden beds
Harvesting fruits and vegetables during the growing season
Assisting with the design and layout of garden spaces
Maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring safe and efficient usage
Collaborating with volunteers and interns to help educate them about sustainable gardening practices
Monitoring plant health and identifying any pest or disease issues
Keeping detailed records of garden activities, including planting dates and harvest yields
Participating in community outreach events to promote the garden and its benefits
Teaching clients and demonstrating gardening expertise
Requirements
Knowledge of gardening practices and techniques, including organic gardening
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong communication skills
A high school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
Previous gardening or landscaping experience (preferred)
Physical ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds, bend, kneel, and work outdoors in various weather conditions
A passion for sustainable agriculture and community service
