Make a splash and earn some cash. We are recruiting for the 2026 summer Aquatics Season. Join our team as a part‑time Cashier and Mascot.
Open during the summer months, City of Phoenix public pools are a great place to learn how to swim, attend a special event, exercise, or just cool off. City of Phoenix pools offer a variety of swimming lessons, programs and activities for every age and ability level. Public pools are open six days a week and are closed on Fridays starting Memorial Day Weekend. The schedule allows pools to be opened through Labor Day, September 7, 2026.
This recruitment will be used to fill temporary part‑time positions at City of Phoenix public pools. It is projected to run through the first Monday of July and will close sooner if positions are successfully filled.
Salary
Cashier $15.69 per hour
Mascot $15.69 per hour
Seasonal part‑time employees will work up to 40 hours during the summer and are not eligible for the full package of benefits. Employees will have the opportunity to receive a free bus/light rail pass and earned paid sick time.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be 15 years of age or older by April 1, 2026.
Cashier applicants must possess some cash handling and computer experience in a work environment.
Mascot applicants will be comfortable wearing a costume to perform at special events.
Ability to move heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds over distances more than 20 feet.
These positions are TEMPORARY summer positions spanning approximately 14 weeks. Incumbents must be available to work each weekend in May and for the entire aquatics swim season beginning Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
No more than ten days off may be requested during this period.
You may be required to work any shift, any day of the week at any of the city's outdoor pools and facilities, throughout the summer aquatic season.
You may be asked to participate in off‑season events for water safety and recruitment.
The working conditions will include heat, sun exposure, and evaporative cooling systems.
Applicants must complete a pre‑employment test following their oral interview, dates will be provided after application is submitted.
Staff will be required to attend meetings and trainings.
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.

The City of Phoenix conducts pre‑employment screening for all positions. The screening may include a drug screening, criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, personal references and certifications. Other screenings may be conducted based on the level of responsibility, access and requirements of the position or Department.
Employees 18 years of age or older who provide a direct service to children must submit to state and federal criminal history records check (by way of a fingerprint background review). Employment will not begin until an Arizona Department of Public Safety report showing no disqualifying convictions is received. The fingerprint background review applies to all Aquatic Section Staff.
Recruitment Dates Priority will be given to candidates that complete their application by March 16, 2026.
Candidates will receive an invite after an application has been submitted. This recruitment will remain open until all positions are filled.
This recruitment and any interview process as a result of this recruitment may be used by multiple hiring managers and multiple departments throughout the City to fill any related current or future vacancies; other recruitments and appropriate eligible lists may also be considered. Eligibility for this classification will end at the close of the aquatic season on September 7, 2026.
