Position Purpose

Responsible for performing routine hazardous and non-hazardous waste tasks involving the movement and processing of various waste in different container sizes/types. Tasks include following procedures & direction, performing manual labor, proper use of PPE, operating mobile equipment, operating fixed/stationary equipment, loading & unloading containers, performing equipment inspections, identifying container types, scanning container movements, consolidating containers & material, staging containers in designated areas, recognizing markings & labels. Tasks are performed daily in the designated processing area as assigned by Leads & Supervisors to meet processing objectives for material disposal.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities

Manage assigned area while maintaining operational efficiencies.

Proficient in all process areas of the department; mastered all four components (CSB/ADA, TRB, Bulk Ramp, TSDF) and can work in any area while maintaining operational proficiency.

Lead, direct and coordinate all team member activities to achieve team goals.

Interface with other Lead Material Handlers to achieve team goals.

Manage site waste generated in work area.

Create maintenance work orders to ensure upkeep of equipment.

Resolve remedial work orders or other environmental concerns and complete closure requirements.

Respond to spills as required.

Manage leaking boxes in a timely manner, making temporary repairs as necessary.

Provide routine manpower for box storage areas for housekeeping, RCRA, TSCA, and safety related items.

Maintain department housekeeping standards and responsible for effective upkeep of all tools, equipment, and facilities.

Interface with contractors and internal departments to obtain information, answer questions, and resolve problems and special requests.

Operate forklift, backhoe, rolloff truck, gradall, other heavy equipment and power hand tools.

Assist emergency coordinator in emergencies.

Prepare numerous logs and reports for tracking purposes.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED.

Minimum two-year hazardous material processing and/or handling experience.

Minimum one year heavy equipment operation preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Ability to communicate through reading and writing.

Trained in the use of material handling equipment.

Work in loud, cold, hot, wet, and dry environments.

Required Certifications / Licenses / Training

Valid Driver's License.

Physical Requirements

Successfully complete drug screen and pre-employment physical, safety-sensitive background check.
