Position Summary
The Youth Development Site Lead provides direction for the program and staff and implements the school‑age enrichment curriculum. The role creates a quality experience for children and parents, emphasizing YMCA core values—honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith. It is responsible for ensuring safety and well‑being of children, leading age‑appropriate activities, and monitoring behavior.
Essential Functions
Serve as Texas Childcare Licensing Site Director and ensure compliance with YMCA, Houston, and state regulations.
Oversee daily operations, maintain a safe and nurturing environment, and manage program sites and equipment.
Ensure child and staff safety, maintain accurate attendance, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
Implement positive behavior management techniques to promote inclusiveness and address concerns calmly.
Conduct safety drills, inspections, and maintain required postings and sanitation standards.
Plan and implement age‑appropriate activities, adapt to diverse needs, and evaluate program effectiveness.
Communicate regularly with parents about progress, behavior, and concerns, following confidentiality policies.
Maintain enrollment and attendance records and analyze trends for growth and retention strategies.
Lead the Youth Program Quality (YPQ) intervention process using continuous monitoring to adjust the program.
Report abuse prevention findings, follow mandated reporting, and monitor high‑risk areas.

Qualifications
Minimum age 21.
High school diploma or GED with at least 70 clock hours of child or youth development training.
Minimum 1 year experience working with youth at a licensed facility, church, school, or equivalent.
CPR, First Aid, AED and Child Abuse Prevention certifications.
Ability to plan, organize, and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
Experience with diverse populations and supervising others preferred.
Current tuberculosis exam or appropriate local health examination.
Pass a local/state background check and FBI fingerprinting.
Education & Experience High school diploma or GED with demonstrated interest in child welfare; prior childcare or babysitting experience preferred.
Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
Mathematical Skills Add and subtract two‑digit numbers; multiply and divide with tens and hundreds; apply operations with money, measurements, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability Apply common sense to execute simple one‑ or two‑step instructions; handle standardized situations with minimal variables.
Physical Demands Light to moderate lifting (up to 25 lbs, occasional up to 50 lbs). Bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, balancing, and manipulating hands and fingers. Requires auditory and visual acuity.
Work Environment Primarily indoor during afterschool hours with some outdoor exposure. Possible weather conditions, noise, cleaning supplies, and other typical facility factors. Camp seasons may involve prolonged standing, bending, walking, climbing, and exposure to sun, heat, and animals.
Work Schedule
Before/After School: Part‑time, Monday‑Friday, 6:30–8:30 am or 2:30–6:30 pm (start/end times may vary). Runs concurrently with ISD calendar.
Camp: Monday‑Friday, 6:30–6:30 pm with shift options. Camps run during ISD breaks. Position defaults to Youth Development Counselor during Camp Seasons unless applicant requests otherwise.
Availability required for family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and trainings.
Travel Primarily to assigned site or camp; occasional travel to other locations.
Other Duties Job duties may change at any time with or without notice.
