These Wildland Firefighter positions are located within the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Southwest Regional Office, Branch of Wildland Fire Management, Aviation Section in Albuquerque, New Mexico; and will be filled from Standard PD Number: DX00400. This announcement will be used to fill vacancies utilizing the Direct-Hire Authority (5CFR 337.201). Duties

Serves as an experienced member of and/or leader within a Helicopter Firefighter crew applies an understanding of wildland fire suppression/management/control work on a helitack module.

Coordinates module or crew logistics and places caches of equipment and supplies at strategic points.

Performs helicopter crewmember duties such as: prepares internal and/or external cargo loads, briefs passengers before takeoff, follows proper procedures for loading/unloading the helicopter, monitors dipsites, etc.

Directs the operation and use of special tools and equipment such as, but not limited to power saws, portable pumps, firing devices, and communication equipment.

Ensures assigned crew members and equipment for the specific fire assignments or daily work assignments are in a state of readiness for the assignment or initial attack.

Ensures readiness of helicopter support accessories and helicopter safety equipment.

Leads less-complex fuels management projects or participates in more complex projects that may include gathering data for monitoring programs and implementing prescribed fir

Leads firefighting personnel by directing their activities when suppressing wildland fires or by serving as a situational leader on wildland fires by directing the work of a small crew of firefighters.

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship Required.

If you are a male applicant born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency.

A background security investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.

This position has been designated as an Incidental Operator under the Indian Affairs Motor Vehicle Safety Program, therefore, the incumbent will be required annually to acknowledge and certify possession of a valid state driver's license.

This is a Drug Testing Designated Position and is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.

This position is subject to pre-employment and annual medical screening and physical fitness testing for arduous duty.

This is a Permanent, Full-Time Seasonal Position and is subject to placement in Non-Pay Status when services are not needed due to lack of work, funds, or unforeseen circumstances.
