Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week)

2ND Shift Evening (plus $.35/hr shift pay)

Base Hourly: $20.76

Class/Calendar: B22,12 months

Benefits: Vacation, sick leave, holidays, retirement matched through the Arizona State Retirement System, health, and life insurance

Performance Pay: Available annually

New Hire Experience: 1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to eight-year maximum

New Hire Education: 1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Job Summary: To oversee custodial staff assigned to school; to perform custodial duties as required by district standards; and to maintain the cleanliness and safe conditions of the school environment.

Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Custodial. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the daily work assignments of custodians assigned to school, check work assignments daily

Assist custodial site manager with the coordination of many diversified tasks (i.e. heating, cooling, lights, security of facility, coordination with other departments for special projects, etc.) each day to maintain the school plant

Request for supplies and equipment needed from custodial site manager

Assist with site inspections according to MPS approved standards to ensure the aesthetic appearance, functionality, and safety of school facility and campus

Assist with the Implementation of improvements in cleaning procedures when necessary

Regular and on-time attendance required

Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities

Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

Required Qualifications:

Minimum two years’ custodial experience

Preferred Qualifications:

High School education or equivalent preferred

Minimum twelve months supervisory experience preferred

Record keeping experience preferred

Skills & Competencies:

Knowledge of district policy and procedures helpful

Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, etc.)

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)

Ability to establish and to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with district personnel

Ability to instruct and assist custodial staff in the correct procedures to perform duties

Knowledge of custodial equipment, supplies, and proper cleaning procedures

Ability to plan and organize effectively, work independently and under pressure

Ability to supervise employees and resolve personnel and custodial issues

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

Custodians work inside classrooms, hallways, restrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and offices, as well as outside maintaining school grounds

Schools can be bustling with students, teachers, and activities, requiring custodians to navigate through crowds and maintain order

Frequent use of cleaning solutions, disinfectants, and floor treatments requires proper safety precautions

May work special events at school including weekends

May be exposed to high temperatures when working outside

Ability to perform heavy manual labor as required; ability to lift approximately 50 pounds
