Position Summary Security Officer (Armed) – Paragon, Buffalo, NY, United States.

This armed position is under the direct supervision of the Manager for an assigned high‑profile site and performs a variety of security‑related duties. In this position, you will observe and report activities and incidents at assigned locations, providing for the security and safety of client property, visitors, and personnel.

As an armed officer, you may respond to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force up to and including armed response as dictated by the situation and protocol. Additionally, you will assist in preserving order and may act to enforce regulations and directives for the site pertaining to personnel, visitors, and premises; control access to client site and facility through the admittance process and respond to all situations; monitor entrances and exits and act to prevent unapproved or unlawful entry.

Some assignments may patrol the assigned site on foot or in vehicle, check for unsafe conditions such as hazards, unlocked doors, and security violations; protect evidence or scenes of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; and prepare logs or reports as requested. May be exposed to stressful situations.

Duties Include

Control access to client site or facility through the admittance process; preclude unauthorized access to facilities and the conversion, theft or intentional destruction of physical assets.

Assist visitors with a legitimate need to gain entry to the facility; screen visitors and client employees efficiently.

Respond to unusual or emergency situations using the appropriate escalation of force level up to and including armed response following established protocol for the site.

Maintain proficiency in the use of all assigned protective equipment, restraint devices and weapons as required.

Provide an atmosphere in which all client employees and visitors know that the client responds to and cares about their needs; provide a courteous, respectful, and pleasant interaction with each client employee and visitor.

Communicate in a manner that is open, honest and responsive in all situations; provide information, to the extent authorized, regarding the site and surrounding area as requested by visitors.

Monitor entrances and exits; act to prevent unapproved or unlawful entry; control movement of people and vehicles; operate a gate and examine vehicle contents; monitor remote entrances using closed circuit television; operate remote access devices; calmly direct persons who cause a disturbance to leave the property.

Patrol assigned site on foot or in vehicle; check for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked ingress and egress, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons; inspect buildings and grounds using appropriate equipment and protective gear.

Protect evidence or scene of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; set up barriers and signage and provide direction or information to others.

Prepare logs or reports as required for the site; write or type reports or enter information in a computer using standard grammar; inspect security control logs and take action as required.

Observe and report incidents or suspicious activity to client representatives, company management, life/safety personnel or public safety authorities as appropriate.

Respond to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents following procedures established for the site, by the company, and/or through training or certification.

Carry out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for the assigned site.

Minimum Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship (Preferred)

Be at least 21 years of age.

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Have a minimum of two (2) years of Armed Security / Law Enforcement experience OR two (2) years of honorable service with the U.S. Armed Forces.

Background & Physical Requirements Must undergo and meet company standards for background and reference checks, controlled substance testing, may need to meet physical examination requirements per assignment and behavioral selection survey, in addition to any mandatory licensing requirements.

Competencies

Meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county and municipal licensing and permit requirements for armed security work and specific protective device and weapons qualifications.

Meet and continue to meet certification requirements for Basic Life Support CPR/AED and First Aid from American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Knowledge of or ability to learn security operations and procedures.

Ability to see, hear, speak and write clearly in order to communicate with employees and clients.

Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports.

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.

Be an effective team member and maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.

Adapt to changes in the external environment and organization.

Have good organizational skills.

Provide high quality customer service; courteous telephone manner; good interpersonal skills across diverse cultures.

Handle multiple tasks concurrently.

Work with computers and the necessary software used by the department.

Working Conditions

Maintain composure when dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff and the public, occasionally under urgency and pressure.

May be exposed to or required to handle sensitive and confidential information.

May be exposed to stressful situations, such as challenging individuals in or approaching an unauthorized area.

Utilize rapid and effective judgment in responding to unusual or emergency situations.

May be required to work overtime without advance notice.

Frequent sitting, standing and walking, up to 12 hours per day; may involve climbing stairs, walking up inclines and on uneven terrain.

Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling.

Respond to emergencies that may include pursuit, detaining and engaging individuals, frequent lifting, and/or moving up to 40 pounds.

Close and distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

May use a vehicle; vehicles may include cars, trucks, electric carts, and bicycles.

Perform stressful physical activity on occasion.

Exposed to inclement weather or required to work in environments that require protective gear.

Work in conditions that require carrying authorized weapons and ammunition, use of protective gear and devices, and awareness of personal and others’ safety.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Rate: $17.75 - $46.00 per hour (Hourly)

Starting wage range $17.75 (starting trainee wage) in all states except California; $26.00 in California.

Post‑assignment wage ranges depend on state and location; health and welfare benefit range $4.23 - $6.25 per hour.

Additional compensation $1.00 - $4.00 may be available at sites requiring a Secret or Top‑Secret clearance.

Shift differential $0.25 - $1.50 per hour may be available for some assignments.

Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) (if paid via health and welfare benefit, no separate company contribution).

Paid time off: 80-240 hours per year based on tenure; sick leave minimum 56 hours per year.
