Reading Specialist – BASIS Baton Rouge Primary Campus
BASIS Charter Schools invites applications for a Reading Specialist with an immediate start. The specialist will support classroom instruction and extend a research‑based reading program for K‑5 students.
Job Responsibilities
Collaborate with teachers to analyze assessment results and plan engaging instruction that builds fluency and comprehension across content areas.
Attend weekly planning sessions with classroom teachers to identify students who need differentiated instruction and suggest accommodations.
Provide intervention support to improve student comprehension and fluency in K‑5 classrooms.
Conduct ongoing student assessments using multiple assessment tools and analyze performance data.
Model best teaching practices to help teachers differentiate instruction and implement classroom accommodations.
Meet regularly with administration and other professionals to discuss student progress and share strategies.
Attend parent‑teacher conferences as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education (or 24+ credit hours) – advanced degree preferred.
Valid fingerprint clearance and/or satisfactory background check.
State teaching credential or equivalent state‑authorized subject test clearance.
Minimum two years of K‑5 classroom teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Post‑graduate work in literacy or a master’s in Education with a focus on reading.
Strong communication skills for teaching concepts with precision and confidence.
High GPA in major and excellent recommendations.
Experience working with children, open to new ideas in teaching.
