Position Overview Quality Control Tech 1 -
Based in the Watertown NY labortory
The QA/QC Technician is responsible for the testing of hot mix asphalt and aggregates to ensure adherence to federal, state, and/or customer specifications.
This position works closely with asphalt plant personnel, construction foreman and governmental agencies.
This is an entry level position working directly for the QC QA Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Implements the test program necessary for the job or laboratory study: carries out the test phase concerning Laboratory studies and/or quality monitoring
Carries out Responsibility of the external auditmonitoring of jobs or industrial facilities
Records the results of analyses in a software and drafts the test reports: documents information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books
Ensures the maintenance and metrological monitoring of measuring instruments: keeps laboratory supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipts, keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions
Provides assistance and/or carries out monitoring on the jobs: ensures the compliance of industries and jobs and advises accordingly
Perform sampling and lab tests on hot mix asphalt (volumetric measurements, asphalt content)
Test stock aggregates (gradation, gravity absorption, crush counts)
Complete governmental and customer reports on test results
Communicate findings to plant personnel, construction teams, agencies, and customers
Investigate customer complaints related to material quality
Other duties as assigned
Competency
Knowledge of hot mix asphalt quality control data
Experience with lab equipment (gyratory, sieves, TMD apparatus, ignition furnace)
Familiarity with paving processes
Strong attention to detail and ability to work with large volumes of numerical dataProficiency in Microsoft Office
Requirements Experience
2+ years’ experience in hot mix asphalt quality control or quality control industry
NYSDOT QC/QA Certification preferred
Associates Degree
Physical Requirements
Extensive Standing and walking extensively
Climbing of stairs and ladders
Lifting up to 80 lbs
Working near mechanical parts and heating devices such as hot plates, propane burners and electric ovens
