Position Objective
Provide support to all press departments, ensuring a quality product is produced for the printing process. Responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of plates and the plate room, ensuring that plates are available and accessible for all areas of production. Tasks include manufacturing and mounting plates onto printing cylinders for upcoming jobs and performing various plant support activities as needed for production.
Essential Functions
Support the production area and operators by ensuring correct components are available at the point of use and delivered based on production needs.
Review job tickets and verify plates are created as specified.
Clean, file, and store plates, ensuring the integrity of the filing system.
Pull plates daily as required to meet the production schedule.
Promptly mount and position plates, ensuring correct alignment to minimize re‑mounts due to misalignment.
Record and track plate mounting material used.
Follow and support all established plate mounting department procedures with 100% compliance; deviations must receive approval from the support team leader.
Maintain work center equipment in good working order; perform operator preventive maintenance as outlined in the operator PM schedule and report problems immediately by filling out work orders as necessary.
Assist with plate adjustments on press and routinely check press progress.
Assist with MSDS maintenance.
Approve consignment inventories monthly.
Collaborate with purchasing on supplies from vendors.
Estimate and order materials for jobs, proactively maintaining and controlling inventory levels.
Question discrepancies between previous and new orders.
Seek to improve the plate‑mounting department process through equipment enhancement, process improvements, and procedure changes.
Organize and remove unnecessary equipment and parts, storing them in their proper location.
Use good judgment and “best for business” tactics when troubleshooting problems and opportunities.
Apply lean philosophy through Kaizen event participation, improvement activities, and lean initiatives to support corporate objectives.
Ensure 6S visual scans are completed and 6S standards are followed through sustainment activities.
Participate in root‑cause countermeasure activities to identify areas where improvement is needed and put a plan in motion to address those areas.
Support continuous improvement efforts in the value stream to reduce waste, save cost, increase speed, and ensure on‑time delivery.
Report and participate in safety incident investigations while maintaining a safe work environment.
May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
Education and Training High School Diploma or GED is required. A 1–2 year degree in a printing‑related field is preferred. Equivalent knowledge and experience is considered.
Experience Basic math and measurement calculation knowledge and experience. Basic computer skills.
