Police Dispatcher
The Police Dispatcher is responsible for ensuring the safety and well‑being of citizens, officers, and emergency responders by receiving and transmitting messages via radio, telephone, teletype, and computer. This skilled, responsible communication role involves dispatching equipment and personnel as needed.
Responsibilities
Receive calls, reports, and requests for police and fire assistance; notify law enforcement, fire department, or service vehicles to respond, providing location and occurrence description.
Dispatch equipment other than patrol cars (e.g., radio‑equipped service vehicles and ambulances).
Operate ACJIC teletype, two‑way radios, computer, and telephone to transmit data to field personnel and to ACJIC & NCIC.
Maintain computer files for stolen vehicles, property, wanted persons, incidents, arrests, bail bonds, warrants, complaints, and radio logs.
Provide receipts for bond payments, deposit and account for collected funds.
Assist with booking of individuals charged with crimes and maintain register of prisoners.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments.

Education & Experience
Must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
Completion of some college or university coursework in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Police Science, Criminology, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses and Special Requirements Employee must retain legal right and authority to access ACJIC & NCIC computer systems. Conviction of any felony or any crime resulting in loss of access will disqualify continued employment.
Language Ability Ability to read, write, and speak routine reports, correspondence, and instructions clearly and concisely, effectively on radio and telephone systems. Hearing sufficient for use of multiple two‑way radio systems and standard telephone systems. Fluency in Spanish preferred.
Reasoning Ability Apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions, handle problems with multiple variables, prioritize calls, and remain calm under pressure.
Computer Skills Knowledge of word processing and database software; ability to use multiple computer screens simultaneously.
Work Environment Primarily indoors in an office setting, occasionally near a jail or other detention facilities. Noise level moderate.
Physical Demands Use hands (typing, operating computer), talk and listen, occasionally stand/walk/sit/kneel/crouch. Lift up to ten (10) pounds. Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception. Manage multi‑tasking between phone, computer, and radio simultaneously.
Available to work any shift on any day of the week and be available for emergency call‑ups.
