Barrow County BOC
This position is responsible for assisting assigned Superior Court Judge in performing administrative legal work.
Reviews case files and conducts legal research to support the disposition of assigned civil and criminal matters.
Analyzes legal issues and provides recommendations to the assigned Superior Court Judge.
Drafts proposed orders, opinions, jury charges, and legal memoranda on matters pending before the Court.
Attends motion hearings, trials, and charge conferences at the direction of the assigned judge.
Provides legal analysis based on Georgia law, court filings, and evidence presented.
Responds to inquiries from attorneys and self-represented litigants regarding case status and procedural sufficiency.
Maintains current knowledge of Georgia statutes, case law, and court rules.
Travels between Jackson and Barrow Counties to support judicial operations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law; No experience required; Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License. Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of law and research procedures; Knowledge of the criminal justice system, especially the court system; Knowledge of general office principles, procedures, and practices; Knowledge of customer service principles; Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and regulations; Knowledge of record keeping principles; Knowledge of basic mathematical principles; Knowledge of resources for conducting research. Skill in prioritizing work; Skill in operating a computer and applicable software applications; Skill in providing customer service; Skill in maintaining confidential records and files; Skill in maintaining schedules; Skill in transcribing correspondence; Skill in conducting research; and Skill in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Physical Requirements
Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes a sense of smell.
