Position Summary This position will provide unarmed security staffing at the WCS Administration Building and the Community Based Mental Health Programs facility. It will maintain safety and security for participants, staff, and visitors in a professional manner. The role also supports backup security at other WCS locations and participates in drop‑in security assessments at programs such as The Milwaukee County Day Reporting Center, Parsons House, Joshua Glover, Thurgood Marshall Apartments, Shelter Care, Project Excel, Bakari Center, Sankofa House, Swigart, North Campus, and the WCS Behavioral Health Community Based Mental Health Programs.
Essential Functions
Greeting and directing visitors and participants.
Ensuring visitors and participants sign in and out.
Having thorough knowledge of WCS programs and locations.
Conducting interior and exterior building checks.
De‑escalating situations and removing participants from the building when necessary.
Providing backup coverage for shelter programs.
Submitting reports and documentation such as accident and incident reports.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Taking appropriate action to prevent or diffuse disruptive behavior.
Submitting work orders to Facilities and IT departments for security needs.
Ensuring overall safety and security of participants and staff.
Assisting with clearing floors during fire or tornado drills and actual events.
Assisting with mail and deliveries as needed.
Reporting incidents to Milwaukee Police as required.
Reporting any security or facility issues to the appropriate entities.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications Minimal Qualifications • Three or more years of security experience. • Successful completion of care‑giver, background checks, and a physical exam. • Valid driver’s license, automobile, and insurance meeting agency requirements.
Performance Expectations Maintaining a neat, professional appearance and interacting with participants, staff, and the public in a manner that positively represents WCS.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in assessing and intervening during risky situations.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent oral and written communication.
Constant state of alertness and good judgment.
Cooperative teamwork with supervisors and colleagues.
Effective communication in crisis situations.
Sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and disability issues.
Learning evidence‑based best practices and applying them.
Personal Attributes
Adherence to agency Code of Conduct and established policies.
Ethical conduct and respectful relationships with program staff, other WCS staff, clients, and external agencies.
Commitment to agency values and mission.
Working Conditions Primary work at WCS North Campus; may require presence at other program sites. Work may involve various weather conditions and shift hours that could include evenings and weekends.
Physical Demands Must be able to climb two to three flights of stairs, be mobile throughout the facility, sit for extended periods, walk and stay awake during shifts, remain alert, evacuate occupants in less than three minutes during emergencies, provide First Aid and CPR, and lift as needed.
