$75,000.00/yr - $85,000.00/yr Location
Houston, Texas. The position works in the office and is open due to growth at the firm. Role Overview
The Legal Assistant plays a critical role supporting multiple small municipalities, mainly MUDs, Municipal Utility Districts, with the timely and orderly implementation of the MUD's policies, processes, actions, filings and other business. The Legal Assistant provides direct substantive support to the Attorney responsible for each MUD. Responsibilities
Direct client‑facing interactions on a daily basis with experts in land development, engineering, operations of water, sewer, and drainage infrastructure, finance, etc. Attend in‑office and/or out‑of‑office Board of Directors meetings and draft minutes (some local travel required; meetings may be held outside normal business hours with morning or evening start times). Draft agendas for Board meetings. Substantive document drafting and processing, including drafting orders, resolutions, and other documents; organize and e‑file documents following Board meetings. Research, compile, and analyze information using internal resources. Draft professional correspondence. Prepare and maintain annual calendars of events, deadlines and regulatory filings for multiple clients (MUDs). Monitor compliance with contract terms. Assist with the sale of public bonds. Assist with elections held by the client. Qualifications
Degree required with 5+ years of professional, client‑facing work experience. Must have strong oral and written communication skills with emphasis on grammar, spelling, writing and proofreading. Must meet deadlines with strict attention to detail and work well with limited supervision. Must work independently on multiple projects and provide strong client customer service skills. Must attend in‑office or out‑of‑office morning, afternoon or evening meetings as needed, speak to a group in a Board Meeting setting, and have experience attending meetings and taking minutes. Experience editing documents is required. Preferred background in English, Journalism, Legal Studies, Education (Assistant Principal/Principal – Administration), Project Management or Public Administration. Must have reliable transportation for travel to out‑of‑the‑office meetings. Compensation and Benefits
