Position Summary Mill Utility Operators are responsible for the safe and efficient feeding of rock to the process plant as well as loading customer trucks. Operators must be capable of learning the milling process and filling in for Mill Operators when needed, as well as assisting maintenance in various tasks. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with Huber’s Sustainability Management System within their sphere of influence, including air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, and other applicable rules.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Load customer trucks with strict adherence to company procedures and customer expectations.

Perform duties of shipping operator as needed, including paperwork, truck loading and receiving.

Perform preventative maintenance (PM) on the plant feed system, including cleaning out the hopper with electric chisel and jack hammer, and performing and documenting pre‑shift inspections and PM of the loader (lubricating, fueling and checking all other fluid levels). Perform other PMs as needed.

Operate the front‑end loader to maintain plant feed going to all milling systems, ensuring tank levels are optimized and mill brightness and quality specifications are met.

Complete daily paperwork and assist with inventory and reports when needed.

Assist the shipping department with maintaining truck scales to ensure accurate weighing capabilities.

Assist Mill Operators, Packaging Operators and Maintenance as needed or directed.

Perform housekeeping required each shift to keep the rock hopper, feed belt and yard clean; maintain grading in drive and yard by using the loader bucket to clean up minor spills; uphold housekeeping standards in milling areas.

Monitor mill product quality using feedback from the Quality department; make blend adjustments as needed to maintain quality standards.

Demonstrate good teamwork and communication skills.

Learn to run all process systems to fill in for a Mill Operator in the event of any emergency, unplanned absences or vacations whenever necessary.

Actively participate in the continuous improvement program.

Perform other duties as trained and assigned.

Physical Requirements

Works inside and occasionally outside.

Exposed to extreme heat and cold, ranging from 20 °F to 120 °F, as well as dust, dirt, noise, vibrations, and humidity for up to 12 hours at a time.

Ability to lift and handle an average of 55 lb bags in repetitive motion on a daily basis; shifts range from 8–12 hours.

Must use arms to lift and hands and fingers to feel, hold and move product; routine bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, squatting, turning the body.

Able to climb and descend 19 stairs multiple times a day.

Must wear required personal protective equipment for the entire shift: hard hat, steel‑toed shoes, safety glasses, safety harness/lanyard, gloves, hearing protection, etc.

Must be able to climb on/off forklifts, loaders, and skid steers multiple times a day.

Must be able to shovel 2,000 lbs of loose rock as needed for housekeeping.

Specialized / Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

Works inside and occasionally outside.

Exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, noise, vibrations, and humidity.

Capacity to lift an average of 55 lb bags in repetitive motion.

Use of hands and arms for lifting, holding, and moving product.

Ability to climb a 19‑step staircase multiple times a day.

Capability to wear full PPE for entire shift.

Capability to climb on/off forklifts, loaders, skid steers.

Capability to shovel 2,000 lb of loose rock for housekeeping.

Education High School Diploma or GED.
