Responsibilities The Facilities Maintenance Worker II provides semi‑skilled labor required for the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of park facilities, including buildings, fixtures and furnishings; grounds, walkways, parking lots, and landscape forms; and other physical features. The employee may also serve as a lead person for a small crew of workers engaged in maintenance activities.
This is an hourly, union‑based position – Step 1 of pay starts out at
$22.04 per hour . Higher pay steps are based on skill level.
Position will start on
1st shift from 7am – 3:45pm
working five days a week with
one weekend day . Position may require some flex days that will require later night shifts.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FACILITIES MAINTENANCE WORKER II AT JBZ
The Facilities Maintenance Worker repairs and/or replaces damaged or deteriorated components of electrical, lighting, air‑handling, plumbing and other building systems, as well as moderates construction and remodeling of park buildings, habitats, and other structures. They perform preventive maintenance for mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems. They also serve as team leader for assigned Facilities Maintenance Worker I and/or other maintenance staff, providing work assignments and monitoring work progress, including equipment operation and safety.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED combined
Minimum 4 years building or industrial maintenance experience, including at least one year as a lead person; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, material safety data sheets and other safety information required for proper performance of the work.
Working knowledge of preventive maintenance practices for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems and components.
Operating knowledge of manual and small power tools commonly used in carpentry, maintenance construction, grounds, and custodial maintenance trades.
Ability to operate a variety of electric and gas‑powered driven maintenance equipment.
Ability to gather and analyze data as related to use of; or troubleshooting of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Sufficient mathematical ability to mix cleaning chemicals, and other compounds in proper proportions.
Ability to interact positively and appropriately with coworkers, supervisors, managers, Zoo guests, contractors, concessionaires, and members of the general public with diverse cultural and socio‑economic backgrounds.
Ability to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
