Alabama State University, Intercollegiate Athletics, invites applications to fill the position of Coordinator of Strategic Communications. The Coordinator of Strategic Communications is responsible for supporting and executing comprehensive communication strategies that advance Alabama State University’s mission, brand identity, and strategic priorities. This role coordinates day-to-day communications, messaging, and content development across multiple platforms to enhance institutional visibility, stakeholder engagement, and reputational excellence. The Coordinator works collaboratively with internal and external partners to ensure consistent, timely, and strategic messaging.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support the development and execution of strategic communication plans aligned with University and departmental goals
Create, edit, and distribute high-quality content for digital platforms, including websites, social media, email campaigns, press releases, newsletters, and internal communications
Coordinate messaging to ensure brand consistency, accuracy, and alignment with University standards
Assist with media relations efforts, including drafting press materials, coordinating interviews, and maintaining media contact lists
Monitor and analyze communication metrics (e.g., engagement, reach, impressions) and prepare summary reports to inform strategy
Collaborate with campus partners, including Marketing, Enrollment Management, Advancement, and Athletics, to support institutional initiatives and events
Support crisis and issues communication efforts as directed, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of information
Maintain content calendars and project timelines to ensure deadlines are met
Assist with special projects, campaigns, and event communications as assigned
Perform other related duties as required to support University communication objectives
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field, 2 years of professional experience in strategic communication, marketing, public relations, or a related area, demonstrated ability to write clearly, concisely, and effectively for diverse audiences, strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and proficiency with common digital communication tools and platforms (e.g., social media, content management systems, email marketing platforms).
