General Maintenance Worker / Grounds Purpose The role provides skilled and semi‑skilled maintenance services to support the educational process. Responsibilities include maintaining facilities in safe operating condition, addressing operational and safety concerns, and ensuring tools and materials are available on site. This position reports to the Assigned Administrator.

Essential Functions

Arrange furniture and equipment for special events.

Assist maintenance workers with projects (transporting, securing materials, completing tasks) for safe, efficient completion.

Build items (e.g., counters, temporary partitions) to modify and adapt facilities.

Clean gutters, culverts, bath basins and other drainage structures to prevent damage and limit liability.

Coordinate with assigned lead, supervisor and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently.

Install system component parts and facility equipment (lighting, heating, ventilation, alarms, plumbing, electrical panels, etc.) to provide a safe working environment.

Maintain grounds, lawns and landscape at district buildings, including playgrounds and sports fields (fertilize, weed control, mowing, seeding, watering, etc.) to provide attractive, safe areas for assemblies and athletic events.

Participate in meetings, workshops, trainings and seminars to convey and gather information.

Perform a variety of maintenance activities (carpentry, painting, glazing, plumbing, mechanical, masonry, basic electrical, etc.) within established time frames.

Prepare written materials (repair status logs, reports) for documentation and communication.

Procure supplies and materials (soap, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, etc.) to maintain availability.

Repair furniture and building system components to ensure safety.

Request equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and availability for installations and repairs.

Respond to emergency situations during and after hours to resolve safety concerns.

Tend vehicle, tools and equipment to maintain availability in safe operating condition.

Transport tools, equipment and supplies to ensure availability at job site.

Other Functions

Perform related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Skills:

Operate trade equipment and tools, adhere to safety practices, handle hazardous materials, and plan/manage projects.

Knowledge:

Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios), read manuals, write documents in prescribed formats, understand multi‑step written and oral instructions, and know standard methods, materials and tools used in the trade.

Abilities:

Schedule activities/meetings, gather/collate data, use job‑related equipment, work flexibly with others and data, solve problems under time constraints, adapt to changing priorities, and develop effective working relationships.

Responsibilities Work under limited supervision following standardized practices; provide information or advice to others; operate within a defined budget; utilize resources from other work units; and impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, fine finger dexterity, 10% sitting, 45% walking, 45% standing; exposure to minimal temperature variations and potential injury or illness risks.

Experience Job‑related experience is required.

Education High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Testing and Credentials

Valid Driver’s License and evidence of insurability.

Criminal Background Clearance / Fingerprint Clearance.

MMR vaccination record.
