Job Description The Buyer negotiates and places orders for small to moderately priced items and estimates value of merchandise based on knowledge of market prices. This individual reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority. Responsible for the identification of opportunities for cost savings and quality improvement through effective negotiating techniques and sourcing of pricing.

Responsibilities

Selects, orders, and purchases, at the most favorable prices, merchandise consistent with quality, quantity, specification and other requirements.

Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers.

Prepares and processes bids for supplies and services according to standard procedures and policies.

Works closely with vendors to obtain and develop desired products.

Reviews proposals and in conjunction with manager awards contracts.

Places direct and sole‑source orders, maintaining appropriate pressure on suppliers to reduce or maintain total delivered cost.

May authorize return of merchandise.

May process purchase requisitions through the materials management and e‑commerce systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in purchasing, retail management or related field, or equivalent combination of education and applicable work experience.

2 years of prior buying or related experience.

Compensation The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58,661.00 - $74,250.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
