Position Summary Maintains and repairs machinery, plumbing, electrical wiring, and the physical structure of housing units, and hospital facilities. Repair and maintenance of grounds, gas, water, air equipment and appliances. Performs repair and preventive maintenance on patient beds, stretcher carts, furniture and equipment. Repairs structural walls ceilings and floors, door closers, HVAC equipment, pumps and motors, and installs locks.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Does routine painting.
Repairs woodwork, plumbing fixtures, drywall and plaster.
Inspects machinery and mechanical equipment for defects and repairs whenever possible.
Opens clogged drains.
Replaces drive belts and other defective parts on machinery.
Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, pulleys, and other parts of machines, beds, or stretcher carts.
Prepares order form for tools and supplies necessary for maintenance and repairs.
Dismantle machines or equipment to repair defective parts and repairing them.
Test, replace, and install electrical devices and fixtures.
Cuts and threads pipe for minor plumbing, air conditioning repair.
Knowledgeable of building management systems known as "METASYS", performs standard duties as systems operator and can detect trouble in these systems with reasonable success at least 70% of the time.
Can diagnose and correct problems in Computerized Tube Delivery system (Translogic Tube System), requiring immediate responses to operational failures of varying nature with success rate of over 75%.
Other duties may include (but are not limited to) involve repair to mechanical equipment, plumbing, painting, various types of structural repair, and minor electrical repairs.
Performs other related job duties as requested.
Required
High School diploma or GED
Three (3) years of prior work experience
Must possess valid Michigan Driver's License and be insurable under the hospital insurance program
Preferred
Five (5) years of prior experience
Certification as a "Certified Healthcare Mechanic", where a written exam has been administered
