Pawtucket School Department. The Pawtucket School Department is seeking Social Workers.
SUMMARY Supports students with behavioral, mental, emotional or physical problems; counsels students whose behavior, school progress or mental or physical disability or condition indicates need for assistance. Consults with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems and effect solutions. Arranges for medical, psychiatric, and other test and examination that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures. Attempts to alter attitudes and behavior of parents and teachers that cause or aggravate problems. Serves as liaison between home, school and community resources, protective services, doctors, and clergy members. Serves as a consultant to school personnel regarding students or situations which are not referred for district service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in the development of individualized behavioral program for students based on their unique special needs;
Consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems and effect solutions;
Provide individual, group, and family counseling to students and their families who are determined to be in need of such services;
Arrange for medical, psychiatric, and other examinations that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures;
Recommend changes in educational/behavioral program or other treatment to effect remedy;
Participate in meetings such as Response to Intervention (RTI), Section 504/ADA, and Special Education evaluation/IEP meetings when scheduled;
Serve as liaison between school and community resources, such as family service agencies, child guidance clinics, protective services such as DCYF, and doctors;
Consult with school personnel with respect to students or situations which are not referred to the social worker for direct service;
Maintain records necessary for the performance of responsibilities;
Know the levels systems in place for the student and be able to assist students in graduating to higher levels;
Perform social assessments and adaptive behavior skills assessment to determine student's needs;
Perform crisis intervention to student, school personnel, and family on a needed basis;
May be required to conduct home visit with parents (guardians) to review and discuss student's needs and recommendations established;
Perform such other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director or Building Principal.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATES
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license;
RI School Social Workers PK-12 Certificate.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in working with students from urban area;
Desire to work with middle school students and young adults;
Experience working with students with Autism and behavioral/social/emotional challenges;
Experience with diversity preferred;
Successful experience teaching.
