The Information and Technology Services Technician is responsible for supporting Sevier County Government by providing technical support and maintenance for County computer networks, systems, and information technology infrastructure. The primary areas of responsibility include troubleshooting and resolving network and connectivity issues, installing and maintaining servers, routers, switches, and related hardware, supporting software applications, and maintaining internal and external data communication systems. This position also involves assisting with information services planning, managing network security measures, supporting remote sites, and providing timely technical assistance to County employees for hardware, software, and peripheral devices. Job performance for this position will be evaluated by the Director of Information and Technology Services based on technical proficiency, quality and timeliness of user support, adherence to County policies and security requirements, accuracy of documentation, organizational skills, and effectiveness in communicating with both technical and non-technical users.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoots and resolves network, infrastructure, and connectivity issues, including support for remote sites and Internet connections.
Installs, configures, maintains, and monitors servers, routers, switches, and related network hardware to ensure reliability, performance, and redundancy.
Provides timely technical support to County employees for hardware, software, network access, and peripheral devices, ensuring satisfactory resolution of issues.
Maintains internal and external data communication systems, including email services, Internet connectivity, and secure network access.
Proactively evaluates network performance and capacity, anticipating issues related to system growth, hardware changes, or software deployments, and implements corrective actions.
Assigns, manages, and documents IP addressing using DHCP and manual configurations, ensuring accurate records and preventing network conflicts.
Implements, monitors, and supports network security measures, including antivirus protections, intrusion detection systems, vulnerability mitigation, and security policy enforcement.
Performs network vulnerability assessments, basic penetration testing, and risk analysis as assigned.
Installs, maintains, updates, and patches application software and operating systems in compliance with licensing and security requirements.
Serves as a liaison with Internet Service Providers and technology vendors to coordinate services, resolve outages, and maintain service quality.
Supports and troubleshoots printers, scanners, mobile devices, audio/visual systems, and other technology equipment used by County departments.
Creates, maintains, and updates technical documentation, issue-resolution records, and user-friendly instructional materials.
Assists with information services planning, system improvements, and technology projects as assigned.
Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Required
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Possession of a valid Tennessee Driver’s License and ability to be insured at standard liability rates.
Ability to pass a physical and drug screen administered through a licensed physician
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Ability to support and troubleshoot Active Directory environments, enterprise network systems, and both wired and wireless technologies, including 802.11 standards.
Proficiency in installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting hardware and software used in a multi-site government environment.
Knowledge of network security principles, including antivirus protections, intrusion detection, vulnerability mitigation, and data confidentiality practices.

Occasional work in non-office settings, including County facilities such as correctional facilities, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Medical Examiner facilities, remote sites, and equipment rooms, which may involve exposure to varying noise levels, temperatures, and security protocols.
Position require on-call availability, response to after-hours emergencies, and flexible scheduling, including evenings or weekends as operational needs require; travel between County facilities and reliable transportation are required.
