Job Description The Dispatcher is a conduit for information between the public and need for Police. Receives telephone call requests for service (CFS), collects appropriate information while interacting with the caller and a Computer Aided Dispatch system (CAD). Dispatches the CFS and follows it to completion, making appropriate entries in the CAD system. Dispatcher is subject to shift work, sometimes working alone or with general/limited supervision.

Essential Job Functions

Operates telecommunications equipment such as radios, telephones, computer terminals, and video and audio recording devices.

Receives calls for service requests and appropriately routes the request.

Serves as the communications link for campus public safety units and other county/municipal public safety agencies.

Receives and dispatches emergency radio and telephone calls.

Maintains records and files as required by State, Federal Government, and department regulations and/or policies.

Attends training in telecommunications operations and procedures.

Assists in the training of department personnel.

Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Strong attention to detail.

Must be drug free and have no criminal history.

Ability to be flexible in working multiple shifts.

Able to multi-task and effectively handle crisis situations while under pressure.

Ability to accurately type 25 words per minute.

Basic understanding of standard radio broadcasting procedures and rules, and the ability to use two-way radios, including speaking in a clear/concise manner.

Ability to use the NLETS/TLETS/NCIS/TCIC.

Skilled in the use of Outlook Mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Crimestar (CAD).

Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to use proper telephone etiquette at all times.

Ability to monitor CCTV, as well as fire/burglar alarms. Employee must be able to download and email CCTV recording to officers.

Ability to interact well with local, county and state police, as well as with monitoring companies and Fire/EMS employees.

Ability to learn campuses geographical areas.

Ability to work effectively with others.

Physical Abilities

Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.

Ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.

Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.

Work Schedule And Conditions

Equipment used includes: PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment.

Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.

Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and at least 2 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be able to complete all TX Commission on Law Enforcement requirements for Telecommunications Operator licensing.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate's degree.

Salary Hiring salary range is $36,057 - $41,466.
