Permanent 3/4 time position throughout the year. Schedule approximately 30 hours per week at a City of Des Moines recreation center.
Responsible For
Serve as a central communication point within the Parks and Recreation Department, providing service to customers in person, by telephone, and electronically.
Perform clerical and administrative support functions to office personnel.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, City employees, businesses, community organizations and the public.
May be required to work holidays, weekends, and during hours other than traditional business hours.
Acceptable Experience and Training
Graduation from High School or possession of a GED.
At least one year experience working with standard and customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks.
Some experience in general office and customer service operations.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Special Qualifications
Pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen.
Pass a background check.
Minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL WORK
Answer department telephone calls, receive and greet visitors, provide information.
Serve as central person for reservations and scheduling of Park and Recreation rental facilities.
Create publications and brochures from general information provided by department staff.
Respond to citizens’ questions and comments courteously and timely.
Coordinate with appropriate others to maximize effectiveness of interdepartmental operations.
Screen visitors, telephone calls, faxes, mail and messages directed to office personnel.
Dispatch information to key Park and Recreation personnel as necessary.
Answer customer questions requiring detailed programmatic knowledge of Park and Recreation operations.
Follow up on complaints from customers; gather information from various sources.
Prepare correspondence, lists and other documents on computer.
Keep supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed regarding work progress.
Gather, assemble, update, distribute and/or file records and data as requested.
Copy, package and distribute written materials as requested.
Provide information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees.
Attend meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions; review publications and audio‑visual materials.
Perform other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
