Lead Maintenance Tech, 1st shift Dee Zee • Des Moines, IA, United States
Position Summary Schedule and direct a crew of Maintenance Technicians involved in one or more functions of Maintenance. Train and provide work direction and guidance while performing work in one or more of the skilled trades of Maintenance. Essential Functions
Prioritize, schedule, layout, assign, and coordinate the work of assigned staff to accomplish maintenance tasks
Provide training, work direction, and guidance while performing work
Assist with scheduling work and determining needs for equipment and supplies
Report to Maintenance Manager any unusual technical or personnel issues
Provide input to performance reviews and monitor work of assigned crew members
Perform a variety of skilled work in different buildings of company
Construct, rebuild, and repair company equipment and facilities including wood and metal structures
Perform various HVAC and plumbing duties including cut, thread, assemble and lay pipe
Assist in the purchase, installation, repair, and maintenance of various plumbing, heating and air conditioning fixtures
Perform welding and metal fabrication
Perform a wide variety of skilled journey‑level work in the maintenance and repair of equipment
Diagnose and repair electronic ignition systems for heaters, furnaces and hot water heaters
Ensure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, state and local codes, regulations and requirements
Operate a variety of equipment and machines including saws, drills, and hand tools to perform repairs and maintenance work
Operate company vehicles and perform heavy physical labor
Maintain tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition
Assist in the purchase, installation, maintenance and repair or electrical wiring and fixtures
Perform trouble shooting to repair or replace fans, motors etc.
Perform repairs to motors lighting circuits, and to communication and audio‑visual equipment
Estimate cost of labor and materials for work orders and obtain competitive prices for equipment and supplies
Perform a variety of skilled building maintenance repairs to doors, windows, roofs and other building parts and construct or assemble furniture and other wood and metal structures
Perform skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment and test and replace circuits, coordinate emergency repairs and large complex projects, troubleshoot and correct defective switches, receptacles, ballasts and other wiring;
Perform routine mechanical electrical maintenance
Maintain records in company software related to work orders and materials and labor
With guidance, purchase tools, equipment, and materials and operate light trucks to pick up or deliver equipment and supplies
Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with 6S procedures, rules, and regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Ability to stop the production line and/or prevent shipment of products due to nonconformance or potential nonconformance products to our customers.
Support the environmental policy with proactive process implementation, improvement suggestions, reducing waste, and acting on environment performance results and findings.

Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, JLG lifts
Technical aspects of field of specialty
Knowledgeable of proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies
Basic record keeping techniques
Knowledgeable of proper trade tools, equipment, materials, methods and techniques used in skilled and general maintenance and repair involving electrical, heating, and air conditioning, plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding or automotive mechanic
Effectively and safely operate a variety of assigned tools and equipment
Interpret shop drawings, sketches and work orders
Ability to communicate and follow oral and written directions
Estimating ability
Make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately
Ability to work independently with little direction
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
Observe legal and defensive driving practices
Position Qualifications Education
Experience Five years' experience in one or more of the maintenance trades; Robotics experience – PLC how to write and troubleshoot preferred; Experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.
Computer Skills Must demonstrate computer literacy.
Certificates & Licenses Electrical Apprentice or licensed by state preferred; HVAC license would be an advantage; Must have a Valid Driver's license; Must pass and maintain written and driving test for forklift certification.
Other Requirements Ability to be on call outside normal work hours.
