Grounds Maintenance Laborer
This position is set aside for a person with a disability.

Location:
Fort Meade, Maryland.
Working Hours:
6:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday‑Friday (September through May). 5:00 am to 2:00 pm, June through August.
Hourly Wage:
$24.60. Non‑exempt; eligible for overtime pay.

Introduction The Grounds Maintenance Laborer maintains grounds of industrial, commercial, or public property such as buildings, camp and picnic grounds, parks, playgrounds, greenhouses, and athletic fields, and repairs structures and equipment. The Laborer is responsible for maintaining attractive grounds areas; protecting against erosion; maintaining grounds for assemblies and recreational use; and ensuring assignments are completed in a safe, proper, and timely manner.
Responsibilities
Perform general grounds labor using walking‑type or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs.), trim hedges, edges around walks, flowerbeds, and wells, using hedge trimmers, clippers and edging tools, prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, use shears and other hand tools, spray lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer or insecticide.
Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs; water lawn and shrubs during dry periods using a hose or activating sprinkler system; pick up and burn or cart away leaves, paper or other litter; remove snow from walks, driveways, roads, or parking lots using shovel and snow blower; spread salt on walkways and other areas; repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings.
Assist in the repair of roads, walks, buildings, and mechanical equipment; clean comfort stations, offices, workshop areas, and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping, and polishing.
Clean landscaped areas and related items (e.g., storm drains, litter) to prevent flooding and remove hazards.
Perform work at heights of up to 12 feet using an extension ladder, hydraulic lift, or scaffolding to complete projects not reachable from the ground.
Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns (e.g., downed trees, limbs, fences).
Maintain tools and equipment for availability in safe operating conditions. Transport various items (e.g., tools, equipment, supplies) to ensure availability at the job site.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions.
Working Conditions Mainly work outdoors. Working conditions are subject to extreme temperature and weather. May be inconvenienced by dust, dirt, fumes, or flying objects.
Physical Qualifications Stand 33%, walk 33%, sit 33% of work time. Lift/carry 60 lbs. and push/pull 100 lbs. Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and handle for load/unload materials and equipment. Must be aware of safety hazards and communicate. Must see and differentiate colors. Ability to drive and operate power equipment required.
Qualifications Minimum one year of landscape maintenance experience including experience in mowing with a push mower and weeding. Provide own transportation to the work site. Work independently.
