The position provides organization, sanitation, and general maintenance in the assigned functional areas. Employees in this classification perform general and preventative maintenance and repair work. Position is responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of supplies and facilities in the assigned areas. Position is distinguished from that of Maintenance Worker I, by the knowledge gained through experience in the work, and greater independence while performing assigned duties. Performs related work as directed. Because it is difficult if not impossible to present a finite list of every possible function to be performed by employee, the City of Wilton Manors reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to modify and update this job description and to ask employee to perform tasks beyond the duties presented herein. In the event a change is necessary to update the essential functions of the job, the City will provide as much notice as practicable to the employee.

Maintains a safe and clean working environment and provides for the general upkeep for the assigned areas; utilizes various cleaning agents, mixing such according to label instructions and product specifications,and using in accordance with prescribed safety precautions and directions.

Maintains City buildings, parks and recreational facilities.

Performs and assists with various special projects.

Maintains and repairs public right-of-ways, green spaces, City parks and recreational facilities; performsroutine grounds maintenance tasks; e.g., lawn mowing, tree and hedge trimming, edging, laying sod.

Utilizes fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides to maintain green space, right-of-ways and parks and recreational areas.

Installs and repairs various fencing; e.g., wooden fencing, chain link fencing; repairs and replaces boardwalks and other wooden structures.

Installs and repairs various plumbing fixtures and piping; e.g., sinks, showers, toilets, pvc pipes, drinking fountains.

Installs and preforms minor repairs electrical equipment; e.g., timers, light fixtures, outlets, switches, fuses, fans, hand dryers, electric gates, garage doors, air conditioners.

Performs related work as directed.

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by demonstrated ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work and a minimum of (2) years’ experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities and grounds within a similar public environment; ability to lift 20 lbs; ability to squat, kneel, or crouch for prolonged periods of time; ability to withstand prolonged active work periods both indoors and outdoors in heat, humidity, cold, and other inclement weather with protective equipment and measures.
