As a Hy-Chi Department Clerk, this position will be responsible for filling customer orders, handling food in a safe manner, ordering and receiving products, ensuring orders are correct, labeling dates, and putting product away. Additionally, you will provide courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members, ensuring a positive company image.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.

Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store.

Attempts to learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible; assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and capturing customer suggestions.

Answers the telephone promptly, providing friendly, helpful service and taking customer orders.

Takes customer orders at the Hy-Chi Department counter.

Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.

Reviews orders for the day.

Practices proper sanitation procedures and keeps the work area clean and neat.

Reviews the status and appearance of food for freshness.

Ensures that an adequate food supply is ready and on hand by developing or following a production list.

Anticipates product needs for the department on a daily basis.

Prepares, finishes, and replenishes products as necessary.

Pulls product from cooler/freezer to prepare for cooking.

Checks in product, puts product away, and reviews invoices.

Runs the department register, receives payment, makes change, etc., where applicable.

Removes trash in a timely manner.

Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.

Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines; reports to work when scheduled and on time.

Secondary Duties And Responsibilities

Washes dishes as necessary.

Orders product and supplies as necessary.

Prices products for customers as necessary.

Delivers orders as needed.

Assists in other areas of the store as needed.

Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Worker Characteristics

Can carry out written or verbal instructions involving a few concrete variables.

Can perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, count, and record.

Can understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; can write identifying information; can request supplies orally or in writing.

Education And Experience High school diploma or equivalent; six months or less of similar or related experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities None.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; 20 pounds frequently; 10 pounds constantly.

Vision from 20 inches or less to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, and field of vision.

Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, use finger dexterity, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.

Working Conditions This position is continually exposed to flour, dust, noise, temperature extremes, and occasional cleaning chemicals/solvents. It is a fast‑paced environment with significant pressure.

Equipment Used To Perform Job Oven, steamer, scale, mixer, shrink wrap machine, re‑ordering machine, register, walk‑in cooler, knives, serving cases, C.A.R.S., and system.

Contacts Has daily contact with internal customers and the general public, weekly contact with suppliers/vendors, and contact with Federal/State Governmental or Regulatory Agencies as necessary.

Compensation The anticipated hourly starting wage is $15.00 to $18.75 depending on experience.
