— a full‑time position serving on the second shift (Monday – Friday, 1:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.).
Purpose Perform vehicle maintenance service on school buses, trucks, and other FWCS vehicles to meet or exceed Indiana State Police and Department of Transportation regulations.
Minimum Qualification
Graduation from high school and two years of experience in vehicle maintenance.
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance methods, materials, terminology, principles, practices, procedures, and equipment.
Valid Commercial Driver’s License issued by the State of Indiana, or ability to obtain one within 180 days of hire.
Paid training and assistance available for those who do not yet have a CDL.
Essential Functions
Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles; service with fuels, oils, greases, hydraulic fluids, and ensure proper fluid levels; lubricate gearboxes; drain and refill crankcases; replace wipers, fuses and batteries; adjust air pressure and replace/rotate tires.
Drive a vehicle to respond to emergency road calls and perform related field work as directed.
Train to adjust, repair and maintain brake systems.
Assist in preparing buses to meet safety requirements for state school buses; perform scheduled safety checks and inspections as required.
Follow verbal and written instructions and work orders.
Operate and maintain tools such as air tools, jacks, testers, lifts and hand and power tools; utilize an assigned computer software.
Maintain shop and work areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
Perform minor bodywork such as installing, maintaining, and replacing flooring, upholstery, mirrors, and glass.
Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the building/unit needs.
Physical Requirements
Communication: ability to speak clearly and hear effectively in various environments.
Manual dexterity: use of hands and fingers.
Postural endurance: sit or stand for prolonged periods.
Flexibility: bend at waist, kneel, or crouch for duties.
Visual acuity: close vision and focus adjustment.
Mobility: free movement throughout the work environment.
Strength & stamina: lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lb or more.
Outdoor work: tolerance of various weather conditions.
