The City of Wichita Public Works & Utilities is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Worker to support the upkeep of city facilities, streets, grounds, and equipment. This role is essential to ensuring safe, functional, and well‑maintained infrastructure that serves residents across the community.

Responsibilities
Perform semiskilled building maintenance tasks such as minor repairs to chairs, flooring, windows, and sash cords.
Perform building and equipment maintenance duties including rough carpentry, plumbing, plastering, cement work, painting, and minor electrical repair work.
Paint traffic markings on streets, and erect, repair, and paint traffic signals and signs in a shop or in the field.
Make boxes, forms, and frames, and perform other semiskilled carpentry tasks.
May perform routine custodial duties.
Perform semiskilled grounds maintenance tasks such as operating power mowers, edgers, irrigation equipment, and related devices.
Operate a vehicle to complete work assignments.
Other related duties may be assigned as needed.
Requirements
Working knowledge of basic computer skills for record keeping.
Understanding of verbal and written instructions, including work orders, requests, sketches, and blueprints.
Clear verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to distinguish colors and shapes accurately.
Proficient working relationships with coworkers, city employees, contractors, vendors, and citizens.
Knowledge of general maintenance tools, methods, and materials.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to maintenance work.
Safe operation of hand and powered tools related to maintenance work.
Tolerance of exposure to occupational nuisances associated with high traffic volume work zones.
Safe work in and around high traffic volume work zones.
Ability to climb stairs, ladders, bend, twist, and reach as necessary.
Ability to maneuver into or on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
Safe lifting of items up to 90 pounds independently, or 300 pounds with assistance.
Work outdoors in inclement and extreme weather conditions, including rain, snow, ice, sleet, heat, humidity, low light.
Work emergency response operations, possibly including 12‑hour rotating shifts, overnight shifts, weekend and holiday shifts.
Valid driver’s license and, within 60 days of hire, a valid Class A Commercial Driver License with Tanker and Air Brake endorsements.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
