Utility Worker I/Trainee – Forsyth County
General Description Start your career with Pasco County Utilities as a Utility Worker I/Trainee. This includes unskilled to limited semi‑skilled work assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the County's wastewater collection and transmission systems. Essential Job Functions
Assist with installation, maintenance, and repairs of collection lines, force mains, lift stations, and plant facilities.
Respond to service requests and emergency callouts for repairing and servicing routine and emergency minor and major wastewater line breaks to minimize service interruption to customers.
Complete assigned daily work orders on a laptop or mobile device using asset‑management work‑order software.
Use GPS to locate, record, and update information regarding wastewater collection lines, service lines, meters, and valves.
Perform installation of new collection connections to lots where service is available, including all piping and fittings, ensuring proper slope for unobstructed flow.
Investigate customer complaints concerning utility systems, determine corrective action, and document findings on work orders.
Maintain an adequate stock of materials on the assigned vehicle for efficient connections and repairs.
Take on‑call duty on a rotating basis to respond to after‑hour and weekend call outs as needed.
Interact with public contractors and vendors in an effective and professional manner.
Accurately complete daily inspection and maintenance records for vehicles and equipment.
Demonstrate commitment and dependability with regular attendance, punctuality, and adherence to the schedule of availability.
Lift or move up to 80 pounds and push or pull heavy objects.
Perform other related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understand and follow verbal and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely.
Knowledge of tools, fittings, and line cleaning.
Ability to drive a truck.
Operate line‑clearing equipment and pumps.
Use a variety of hand and power tools.
Read and interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications.
Accurately complete records, documents, and reports.
Interact with co‑workers, supervisors, and the public professionally and courteously.
Minimum Requirements
High‑school diploma or acceptable equivalency.
Valid Florida driver’s license.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and handle heavy objects; may use a dolly or work with a team member.
Maintain physical fitness to bend, climb, stoop, squat, walk, and perform strenuous labor for extended periods; work outdoors, possibly in adverse conditions.
Work location and shift may vary.
May be promoted to Utility Worker II after six (6) months of employment and completion of Confined Space Certification, Trenching and Shoring Certification, CPR training, FEMA Course 100 and FEMA Course 700.
