DeKalb Judicial Circuit Victim Advocate. The Office of the DeKalb County District Attorney is currently accepting resumes for 1 experienced
Victim Advocate
who will be primarily assigned to our
Firearm Violence Prevention Unit .
The Firearm Violence Prevention Unit works with other units/divisions within the office and with outside offices and agencies to reduce the proliferation of gun violence. It connects people with needed resources and support, engages the community in firearm safety and prevention through education, outreach, and intervention. The position will also have a secondary assignment to our Diversion and Community Alternatives Program.
Responsibilities
Compliance with the Crime Victim Bill of Rights; explanation of criminal justice system; administrative duties and coordination of resources within the community on behalf of victims. Provide resources to crime victims, collaborate with community partners, assist in planning and engaging the community in firearm violence prevention initiatives and events, provide services to crime victims in other special units as needed, and other duties as directed by the Program Director.
Preferred Qualifications The successful candidate must possess a degree in a social services related field and specific experience working with victims of crime. The ideal candidate has prior experience as a Victim Advocate in a prosecutor’s office, but consideration will be given to candidates with strong community‑based advocacy experience. Additionally, experience, paid or volunteer, will be considered.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; detail‑oriented; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a team environment; strong sense of personal responsibility and leadership; commitment to serving the community. Proficient working knowledge of victim resources, criminal justice system, and firearm safety/violence prevention strategies. Flexible working hours required.
Employment is contingent upon completion and satisfactory results of a criminal background check.
