Patient Service Representative – Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist
Join Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist as a Patient Service Representative (PSR) in the Patient Access & Care Team. The PSR is responsible for completing patient registration duties, verifying insurance benefits, collecting patient liabilities, and providing financial counseling. The position requires pro‑active communication, multi‑tasking, and a commitment to delivering quality service to all patients. Responsibilities
Greets patients arriving for appointments and monitors patient flow. Ensures patient demographic and insurance information is complete and accurate. Completes the registration process for walk‑in patients and updates information as needed. Verifies insurance benefits, calculates out‑of‑pocket liability, and collects past‑due balances. Follows financial clearance policy for non‑urgent services and obtains necessary authorizations. Identifies patients in need of financial assistance and refers them to the Financial Counselor. Performs visit closure, schedules follow‑up appointments, and provides patients with appropriate documents. Maintains knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, third‑party payer requirements, pre‑authorization/referral plans, and current accepted insurance plans. Communicates issues and process improvement opportunities to management. Meets productivity requirements and achieves a 98% accuracy rate and established department productivity measurements. Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; patient access, scheduling, registration, and financial clearance experience preferred. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, and EMTALA rules and regulations. Strong mathematical aptitude and critical thinking skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and ADT software. Ability to work with minimal supervision and prioritize work in a high stress environment. Work Environment
Normal office environment. Must sit for the majority of the workday. Occasional lifting up to 10 lbs. Compensation
Pay range: $20.40–$30.60 per hour. Shift and on‑call premium pay available. Incentive pay for select positions. Annual increases based on performance. Benefits
